Hi All, just got this one in an email from Mother Earth News today. You'll be utterly amazed - or not - at what this one says:

http://www.utne.com/Environment/Animal-Right-Activists-Push-for-Animals-Rights.aspx?utm_campaign=H%26E&utm_medium=email&utm_source=iPost&utm_content=08.03.09+HE

You may have to cut and paste that one, but it's short, but telling.

Interesting that people would be more interested in fighting for the legal rights of animals before considering the legal rights of unborn children.

The Mother Jones take on it seems appropriate. If we're going to have laws against animal cruelty, there ought to be some enforcement mechanism. It's a long way from there to legal personhood, though. This will be interesting to watch.

juanito: I have never understood that.

I doubt a slaughterhouse makes a cow feel right at home but seriously. What is the big difference between the current slaughterhouse and keeping the cows on feather beds before they get killed. The result is the same, the cow still gets killed, people are still eating meat.

What about a lion? Lions begin eating their prey while it is still alive sometimes. Are we going to arrest lions for animal cruelty?

I just don't think the same rules should apply for future food as they do for pets.

Ah, it'll never work. Too logical. Wink
